Only a few edits were applied to this picture. Since here eyes were a little dark I selected them and added more lightness. I used the blemish tool a little on the face, and the airbrush to add a little more smoothness to the skin. After a quick selection of the teeth and lightening those, here smile pops.

I used the replace color tool to select the blue color in his shirt to copy it out for red. It actually changed some of the blue that was in the windows of the building behind it as well, but not so much that it was noticeable. I cropped out some of the background too, to keep the subject in focus.

Color Match

You can use two different pictures and match their colors to compensate for different lighting situations, for example when the sun is going down. I used it in this picture to add more saturation to the picture. I then needed to up the lighting so that you could still see the definition in her face. It matched the colors of the other picture however so they will look good together.

This trick is as simple as clicking Image > Adjustments > Match Color. You then choose the picture that you want to match the colors with. It makes the adjustments for you so you don’t have to guess at what is closest.

Challenge image

I attempted adding luminosity to a picture, but I got totally lost and kept darkening all of the image rather than just the lowlights.

I think without edits also they would have looked great.
